Avoiding a Thirsty and Underwater Future – Understanding Water Risks & Identifying Investment Opportunities
The disastrous floods that tore through Venice this week is yet another sign of “business unusual”, as supposed low-probability events have threatened the world’s coastlines and cities at an alarming frequency in recent years. These events underpin the urgency at which we must get to grips with what business unusual implies.
Our deep dive begins with an understanding of these risks, presented by China Water Risk, a think tank that has been driving research and conversation on the topic, followed by a showcase by BNP Paribas Asset Management on how they are managing water and climate risk within portfolios, as well as an introduction to water-related investment opportunities to fund solutions for our future.
Speaker bio – Dharisha Mirando joined China Water Risk from the finance industry upon recognition of the climate urgency, and has since published reports with Manulife Asset Management, the Asia Investor Group on Climate change, and CLSA on how water and climate risks could impact investment portfolios and how to take action to tackle these before it’s too late. Prior to joining CWR, Dharisha worked in the investment team of a long-only public equities fund. She has also worked in the impact investment space in London and Singapore, where she provided technical assistance to social enterprises, helped them raise equity investments, and managed a debt portfolio.
Speaker bio – Gabriel Wilson-Otto joined BNP Paribas Asset Management in 2019 as Head of Stewardship, Asia. Prior to joining BNPP AM, he spent 12 years at Goldman Sachs in Australia and Hong Kong and was most recently Executive Director, Head of GS SUSTAIN Asia.
